Alexandre Desplat to score Star Wars: Rogue One

Alexandre Desplat is to compose the soundtrack for Gareth Edwards' Star Wars: Rogue One.

The Oscar-winning composer of The Grand Budapest Hotel is no stranger to franchises featuring the works of John Williams. Desplat wrote the evocative music for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 & 2. So, it's most likely familiar Star Wars themes will be weaved into the orchestrations.

Edwards and Desplat previously collaborated on Godzilla.

Rogue One will be the first major Star Wars movie not to feature an original soundtrack score by John Williams who will be recording The Force Awakens this summer. Does it matter? Let me know in the comments below.
