Star Trek 3 to boldly go into deep space

The rebooted Star Trek franchise finally embarks on its five-year mission by leaving Earth and travelling into deep space. That's according to director Roberto Orci during a podcast interview for Humans of Earth:

"In [Into Darkness] they set out finally where the original series started. The first two films – especially the 2009 [Star Trek] – was an origin story. It was about them coming together. So they weren’t the characters they were in the original series. They were growing into them and that continues on in the second movie. So in this movie they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen. They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space."

Orci is a veteran of genre film and television (Transformers and Fringe). Previous franchise director JJ Abrams is currently directing Star Wars: Episode VII for Disney, but is rumoured to be onboard as a producer.

Star Trek 3 is scheduled for release in 2016.

Does deep space sound preferable to San Francisco? Let me know in the comments below.

Fringe star to play villain in Star Wars?

Amidst speculation surrounding the standalone Star Wars movies, which includes Yoda, Han Solo and Boba Fett projects. Rumours have emerged that Fringe's John Noble may play a villain in JJ Abrams upcoming Episode VII at Disney!

This doesn't sound too far fetched. JJ Abrams is known to cast actors from his television series in movies. For example Keri Russell (Felicity) appeared in M:i:III.

Don't be surprised to read more Abrams alumni are in the running for roles in Star Wars.
