Coleman Trebor unlocked!

Hasbro's Steve Evans, senior design director for Marvel and Star Wars, posted updated details regarding the Star Wars HasLab The Vintage Collection LAAT/i Gunship campaign.

International retail partners have reported their final backer count, bringing the final tally to 10,541. Therefore, the first tier, Jedi Coleman Trebor, was unlocked.

The news broke following a Geek Meet livestream, where we discussed the latest HasLab with fellow toy collectors. Ryan Speaks Geek hilariously christened Coleman Trebor as Mustard Mint, and this can't be unseen.

This is good news for fans who backed the campaign. I didn't, as I still have an unopened Ghost stored in the garage since last Christmas.

Star Wars HasLab Gunship is backed!

The Star Wars HasLab The Vintage Collection LAAT/i Gunship campaign was backed hours before the 9th September deadline.

Despite a final promotional push by official channels and support from fans (myself included), the centrepiece of Hasbro's Battle of Geonosis campaign for 2026 limped over the finish line without unlocking any of the tiers. The total number of backers was 9,776, just 224 short of unlocking the first tier at 10,000 backers for Coleman Trebor.

The LAAT/i Gunship may have been more successful at a lower price point, and if it had included exclusive variant action figures of Anakin Skywalker, Padmé Amidala, Obi-Wan Kenobi or a Clone Trooper army builder pack.

Hasbro extends Star Wars deal

Star Wars: The Black Series and Star Wars: The Vintage Collection collectors (myself included) can rejoice.

Hasbro has extended its long-running Disney partnership, securing Star Wars and Marvel licenses for years to come.

"It’s an honor to be able to deepen our relationship with Disney Consumer Products to create even more magical play experiences for consumers across the globe," said Tim Kilpin, Hasbro's President, Toys, Board Games, Licensing and Entertainment. “Star Wars and Marvel provide an extensive array of captivating content that gives us an unlimited trove of fresh ideas to create from. Our collaboration spans more than half a century, and we look forward to strengthening our relationship by bringing consumers everywhere brand-new play experiences tied to the exciting universes and characters of Star Wars and Marvel.”

With this extension, Hasbro doubles down on fan-favourite franchises and deepens its powerhouse partnership with Disney.

"We look forward to continuing to collaborate with Hasbro to evolve our expansive portfolio of Star Wars and Marvel toys that bring these iconic adventures into daily life,” said Paul Gitter, Executive Vice President of Global Brand Commercialization at Disney Consumer Products. "From must-have collectibles to Lightsaber toys, we aim to push the boundaries of creativity to deliver innovative products and engaging play experiences that bring our fans closer to their favorite stories and characters.”

Growing up as an only child with a disability in the wake of a life-changing injury, Star Wars toys were a welcome distraction from years of rehabilitation. My favourite toys included a 12" Boba Fett action figure, All Terrain Armoured Transport (AT-AT), Millennium Falcon, Jabba the Hutt action playset and an Imperial Shuttle. Special mention for R2-D2 as that little droid was the first Star Wars action figure I owned before seeing the movie in 1978.

Let's pretend Star Wars Bend-Ems never happened in the early nineties!

30 years ago, following the purchase of Kenner, Hasbro launched Star Wars: The Power of the Force. These were the first new toys worth collecting after Kenner ended the original vintage toy line in 1985. Fast forward to 2025, I'm all about collecting Star Wars: The Vintage Collection.

2027 marks the 50th anniversary of Star Wars, so expect to see plenty of action-packed products to celebrate.

Are you happy Hasbro has extended its deal with Disney to produce more Star Wars products? Let me know in the comments below.

The Force is with Star Wars Celebration Japan

Star Wars Celebration Japan is underway this weekend, and I'm living vicariously via friends' social media posts.

There are enough announcements for Star Wars fans (myself included) to fill a Corellian light freighter.

Sigourney Weaver (Alien) is joining the cast of The Mandalorian and Grogu, directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man), which is the first new Star Wars movie since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

And Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord from Lucasfilm Animation is coming to Disney+ with Sam Witwer reprising the iconic villain for animation. Darth Maul was seemingly killed by a young Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, but returned in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Both stellar spin-offs drop in 2026.

The biggest surprise announcement so far is Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy (Stranger Things). The upcoming standalone movie, which stars Ryan Gosling (Barbie), will be released in 2027. This coincides with the 50th anniversary of the original Star Wars.

Speaking at Star Wars Celebration Japan in Tokyo, Gosling said: "The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters. It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn."

In related news. Our friends at Hasbro have shared the latest product reveals for Star Wars: The Black Series and Star Wars: The Vintage Collection. Whilst collecting is a luxury during a cost of living crisis, I've pre-ordered the Bantha & Tusken Raider 2-Pack as part of Hasbro's return to Tatooine campaign in 2025. This set will pair with Luke's Landspeeder for toy photography.

Are you excited for The Mandalorian and Grogu, Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord and Star Wars: Starfighter? Let me know in the comments below.

Landspeeder revealed at Star Wars Fanstream

Our friends at Hasbro have sent over the latest reveals from the Hasbro Pulse Star Wars Fanstream! The Star Wars team announced new products from Star Wars: The Black Series and Star Wars: The Vintage Collection.

Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder piqued my interest as I missed out on the original Kenner vehicle in 1978 and The Power of the Force 2 rerelease in 1995.

STAR WARS: THE VINTAGE COLLECTION LANDSPEEDER VEHICLE

(HASBRO | Ages 4 years & up | Approx. Retail Price: $59.99 | Pre-order now on Hasbro Pulse and fan channel retailers; available Summer 2025)

Luke Skywalker owned a battered but speedy X-34 Landspeeder, racing the sand-faded craft across the desert. Celebrate the legacy of STAR WARS with premium vehicles, playsets, and action figures from STAR WARS: THE VINTAGE COLLECTION. Based on STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE, this 3.75-inch-scale Landspeeder includes a Luke Skywalker (Tatooine) figure that features photoreal deco and a soft goods poncho. Comes with 7 accessories for dynamic poseability on fan shelves, including his signature Lightsaber™, hat, and droid caller. Calling back to the original 1970s and 1980s vintage toys, figure and vehicle feature Kenner branding and package design, with a unique VC number on the figure for collectability (VC #344A). Reimagine favorite scenes with other THE VINTAGE COLLECTION figures and vehicles from the STAR WARS galaxy (each sold separately, subject to availability).

Build out your scene with the Streets of Mos Eisley (affiliate link) action figure playset and Jawa. In the future, I'd like to see a Patrol Dewback and Sandtrooper added to the Star Wars: The Vintage Collection. It may be announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan or on Star Wars Day as part of Hasbro's return to Tatooine campaign in 2025.

Landspeeder & Luke Skywalker is available for pre-order from Amazon (affiliate link).

Will you be adding Star Wars: The Vintage Collection Landspeeder & Luke Skywalker to your collection? Let me know in the comments below.

Unboxing Star Wars The Ghost HasLab

The wait is almost over. The Star Wars The Vintage Collection The Ghost HasLab will land under the Christmas trees of backers this holiday. Hasbro Pulse shared an unboxing video by product design manager Chris Reiff.

Read the official synopsis:

"For all the dedicated STAR WARS collectors and backers of this incredible HasLab project, this is the unboxing you’ve been waiting for! Join Chris, product design manager, as he takes you through the final production sample of STAR WARS The Vintage Collection The Ghost. In this video, you’ll see everything included with this massive ship—over 28 inches by 34 inches and standing 13 inches tall—the largest STAR WARS ship since Jabba’s Sail Barge.

Chris walks through the detailed assembly process, revealing all the exciting features, like the opening front ramp, removable landing gear, multiple interior panels, and the docking bay for the Phantom II. He also showcases the exclusive STAR WARS Rebels cardback figures—Hera Syndulla, Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger, and Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios.

This is a must-watch for any collector who backed this project and is excited to see what’s coming their way soon this December!"

I mentioned to Steve Evans, design director for fan product for Marvel and Star Wars, how it evoked the magic of unwrapping Star Wars toys on Christmas morning. Evans and his Star Wars team at Hasbro wanted to recapture that nostalgic feeling of unboxing an AT-AT or the Millennium Falcon. They've achieved that goal with aplomb.

Star Wars HasLab Mos Eisley Cantina

"Mos Eisley spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious."

On Friday, Hasbro officially announced the next Star Wars HasLab during a fanstream. For months, fans (myself included) speculated what it would be and Hasbro accidentally confirmed it a few weeks ago.

Return to Tatooine. Inspired by Star Wars: A New Hope, this HasLab celebrates an iconic part of Star Wars history and brings the Mos Eisley cantina to life, featuring a fully modular, interchangeable design for £399.99. Wuher and the Tonnika sisters are included with the base offering and Greedo, Nabrun Leids and Arleil Schous are the three stretch goals.

Fans wanting to expand the cantina further can back the deluxe version featuring an extra wall, booths and furniture for £499.99.

Calling back to the original 1970s and 1980s Star Wars collectables, this offering features Kenner branding and package design for a nostalgic display. Like many fans, I wanted the classic cantina playset for my Hammerhead, Snaggletooth, Walrus Man and Greedo action figures.

This project needs 8,000 backers to begin production and will run from 7th June, 2024, until 8th July, 2024 at 11:59PM ET. If successful, the project will begin shipping around Fall 2025.

Pipeline reveals included Luke Skywalker, Ben Kenobi, Han Solo and Chewbacca.

Will you be backing the Star Wars The Vintage Collection Mos Eisley Cantina HasLab on Hasbro Pulse? Will you be backing the Base or Deluxe version? Let me know in the comments below.

Star Wars adventures in Unofficial Galaxies

Back from a fantastic fortnight holiday visiting family in East Anglia.

During a much-needed break, we got to see the Unofficial Galaxies Star Wars exhibition at Peterborough Cathedral. This is the first Star Wars-related event I've attended since Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016. Dad wielding a lightsaber was a highlight.

Among the 121 exhibits, including original props and vintage toys, is a full-size Landspeeder from Star Wars: A New Hope purchased from London's Elstree Studios.

The highly-prized Palitoy Death Star evoked a bittersweet Christmas memory when Santa made a mixup and left Star Bird Command Base under the tree.

Special thanks to the volunteers who made us feel so welcome and part of an amazing community of fans.

Always excited for more Star Wars! I can’t wait to watch the first two episodes of Ahsoka exclusively on Disney+ on Wednesday!

The Unofficial Galaxies exhibition is open to the public from mid-July to 29th August.

HasLab Ghost gets backed on Hasbro Pulse

On Tuesday, the Star Wars The Vintage Collection The Ghost HasLab was successfully backed and will go into production after the deadline of 7th September on Hasbro Pulse.

This is great news for Star Wars fans (myself included) and collectors alike. After missing out on Star Wars HasLab Jabba's Sail Barge (The Khetanna) and Razor Crest, the Ghost, based on its live-action appearance in Ahsoka, would be an awesome addition to my collection that began with the R2-D2 action figure in 1978.

Due to the cost of living crisis, like many, I've drastically cut back on collecting this year. As I've written previously, £499.99 for the Ghost, the fan-favourite spaceship and home to those Star Wars Rebels, is a big outlay for a collectable that won't be released until late 2024. This sounds churlish, but the Ghost may be too big to display (a friend resold their HasLab Razor Crest due to its size). I appreciate this is a good problem to have.

Now that the goal of 8,000 backers has been reached, there will be upward momentum for the stretch goals featuring Ghost crew members Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus and Garazeb "Zeb" Orrelios. This will mitigate the cost, which will only increase in the secondary market. Also, Ahsoka will be streaming on Disney+ during the crowdfund. This may lead to a fear of missing out (FOMO).

Will you be backing the Star Wars The Vintage Collection The Ghost HasLab on Hasbro Pulse? Are you going to wait and see if all the stretch goals are met? Let me know in the comments below.

Ghost announced as Star Wars HasLab

On Friday, the long-rumoured and highly-anticipated Star Wars The Vintage Collection The Ghost HasLab was officially announced by Hasbro at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC).

Fans and collectors hoping for the Ewok Village from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi may have to wait a little longer.

The Ghost as it appears in the Star Wars live-action spin-off series Ahsoka is coming in hot.

Hasbro needs a win after the previous Star Wars HasLab The Black Series Rancor and Reva (The Third Sister) Force FX Elite Lightsaber both failed to be backed. Ironically, the Rancor almost got funded after one of the creatures appeared in The Book of Boba Fett on Disney+.

Hasbro and Lucasfilm have learned lessons.

Like many fans, I thought the iconic Ghost spaceship from Star Wars Rebels was going to be £599.99 or more. However, it's £499.99 (still expensive) and will go into production if it reaches a minimum of 8,000 backers by the deadline of 7th September, which it will quickly achieve.

This HasLab wisely eschews early bird incentives that can be divisive. The base offering includes General Hera Syndulla and Phantom II with a mini bust of Chopper. The stretch goals are Ghost crew members Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus and Garazeb "Zeb" Orrelios.

Sabine Wren will be sold separately as a deluxe figure. There will be fans aggrieved at this. However, Hasbro could announce bonus stretch goals if the crowdfunded project is highly successful like the Star Wars HasLab Razor Crest.

I've not owned a large-scale Star Wars vehicle since Kenner's Imperial Shuttle from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The Ghost is a gigantic collectable and will look amazing alongside The Mandalorian N-1 Starfighter. Like the N-1 Starfighter, the Ghost doesn't include electronic lights and sounds. This may be a deal-breaker for some fans.

We're in a cost of living crisis, but I've backed the latest Star Wars HasLab (my first) and will worry about clearing space for the Ghost later - it's not expected to ship until December 2024 - a lot can happen in 18 months.

Whilst The Vintage Collection Jabba the Hutt and Boba Fett's Throne Room sets (available in limited quantities during SDCC) are enticing after a 40-year wait, I've cancelled both my pre-orders on Hasbro Pulse to fund the Ghost.

Will you be backing the Star Wars The Vintage Collection The Ghost HasLab on Hasbro Pulse? What do you think of the price? How do you feel about crowdfunded collectables? Should it be a retail release? Let me know in the comments below.

Star Wars exhibition at Peterborough Cathedral

The Force is strong with Peterborough Cathedral. This summer Star Wars fans (myself included) can visit a spectacular exhibition featuring original props and toys curated by Unofficial Galaxies.

The Very Revd Chris Dalliston, Dean of Peterborough, said: "We are very excited to be bringing this extraordinary collection to Peterborough. I was at university when the first Star Wars movie was released in the 1970s and the unfolding story proved a compelling narrative for me, my children and for many millions of people around the world in the years that followed.

Among the 121 exhibits is a full-size Landspeeder from Star Wars: A New Hope purchased from London's Elstree Studios.

"I'm sure this exhibition will draw many people to see it, some of whom will discover our beautiful cathedral and city for the first time. Like many of the exhibitions we have held in the cathedral in recent years, Unofficial Galaxies will not only delight and entertain.

The exhibition also includes an array of original production items and costumes for fan-favourite characters such as Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca and Darth Vader. Cosplayers are encouraged, and Ahsoka Tano will be popular with the Star Wars live-action spin-off series starring Rosario Dawson as the titular character on Disney+.

"It also has the potential to open the door to bigger conversations, in this case about the age-old struggle between good and evil and the role of a 'higher power'. These are themes at the heart of the Christian story and we will certainly be exploring those connections whilst the exhibition is here."

For further information and to book tickets, please visit the Peterborough Cathedral website.

The Unofficial Galaxies exhibition is open to the public from mid-July to 29th August.

Star Wars R2-D2 from Gentle Giant at SDCC

It's San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) this week and Gentle Giant is bringing an exclusive R2-D2 (Droid Factory) jumbo action figure along!

Read the official description:

"It's R2-D2 as you remember him! For the first time, Gentle Giant LTD is releasing R2-D2 as you saw him in the 1979 Droid Factory set. Measuring approximately 7 inches tall, R2 comes with a removable third leg, so he can cruise around Mos Eisley like he owns the place! This exclusive figure comes packaged in a full-color box. Playset not included."

Kenner's vintage R2-D2 action figure was the first Star Wars toy I owned 45 years ago. There's an homage to the fan-favourite toy in Star Wars live-action spin-off series Ahsoka on Disney+.

Will you be getting Gentle Giant's exclusive R2-D2 if you're at SDCC? Let me know in the comments below.

Ghost teased as next Star Wars HasLab?

Is Hasbro teasing the Ghost for its next Star Wars HasLab on Hasbro Pulse? Many fans (myself included) think so after decoding a cryptic message in Aurebesh.

After the previous Star Wars HasLab The Black Series Rancor and Reva (The Third Sister) Force FX Elite Lightsaber both failed to be backed, Hasbro desperately needs a win with the Disney-owned property because in-house brands G.I.Joe and Transformers have been a runaway success.

The Ghost has become an iconic ship since its debut in Star Wars Rebels. It will appear next in the upcoming Star Wars live-action spin-off series Ahsoka on Disney+. Its August premiere follows San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) later this month. It's expected the next Star Wars HasLab will be announced at SDCC as there have been no further announcements since Star Wars Celebration.

Due to the cost of living crisis, like many, I've cut back on collecting this year. However, I have pre-ordered the Star Wars The Vintage Collection N-1 Starfighter and Speeder Bike from The Mandalorian on Hasbro Pulse. I already own the Speeder Bike from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, but you can never have too many. And, as Transformers celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2024, I couldn't pass up pre-ordering Transformers Collaborative G.I. Joe x Transformers Soundwave Dreadnok Thunder Machine, Zartan & Zarana.

Would you back a Ghost HasLab? How much would you be willing to pay for it? What stretch goals would you like? Let me know in the comments below.

May the Toys be with you

May The Toys Be With You is a new Star Wars exhibition at the Museum of Gloucester.

The vintage memorabilia collection, which includes toys produced by Kenner and Palitoy, is curated by fellow Star Wars fan Matt Fox.

Like myself, Mr Fox was aged five when Star Wars was released in 1977.

"It was the first movie I saw and straight away afterwards we were down to the toy shop and I got my first ever Star Wars figure, which was a Darth Vader," he said.

May The Toys Be With You exhibition runs until 30th September.

For further information and to book tickets, please visit the museum website.

What was the first Star Wars toy you owned? Let me know in the comments below.

Jedi: A Star Wars Toy Story

In this special edition of A Star Wars Toy Story, Nick Smith, our US-based collecting connoisseur, remembers when Star Wars: Return of the Jedi ruled toy aisles a long time ago...

Guest post by Nick Smith

It was 1983 and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi was in movie theatres. Almost as exciting as the film were the new toys that came along with it.

I had no qualms about buying Ewoks - Wicket, Logray, Chief Chirpa - before fan wisdom decided that they were uncool. I marvelled at their little plastic outfits and primitive weapons; I could act out their man-eating rituals and pit them against my Biker Scout, who sadly lost his delicate head in a forest accident.

Most of my toys were from Jabba the Hutt’s Palace but my favourite was Luke Skywalker in his ‘Vaderish’ black costume. Sadly, I couldn’t afford a Speeder Bike, a Rebel Transport or the Ewok Village playset, although I did buy a Rancor for my son years later [shame we didn't meet until university in 1993 as I had almost all the things - Ed].

Even in the ‘80s, the number of action figures was becoming unmanageable and I, ahem, ‘borrowed’ one or two from friends to try to keep up. (Don’t worry, I gave them back). But Kenner 'only' released 17 new figures for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, a variety that pales into insignificance compared to what’s on offer today.

Hasbro is still pushing toys to commemorate Lucasfilm’s 50th Anniversary, marked in 2021. These include Black Series figures of a Tusken Raider, an Imperial Hovertank Driver, a Rogue One Shoretrooper, a Death Trooper, Darth Revan and Grand Admiral Thrawn, all 6” tall.

The good news about Hasbro’s deluge of dolls? Tie-ins have been released or are planned for all of the Disney+ live-action shows: The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor and The Book of Boba Fett.

There’s a ‘Star Wars Publishing’ line, which includes Mara Jade, plus tie-ins with The Bad Batch, The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, the 2023 video game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and ‘Gaming Greats.’ Who doesn’t want to own a toy of Lando in his colourful Battlefront II outfit?

In an issue of the Star Wars comic book Infinities, Darth Vader turns Jedi (and white as a pint of milk). The Black Series has resurrected this toy from 2007. A retro collection brings back figures from the ‘70s and ‘80s. So, something to appease every fan, if not every wallet. You can buy ‘Boba Fett’s starship,’ nee Slave One, for a Hutt’s bounty of $200.

Gone are the days when a child could pick up a Star Wars toy for a buck or two. Hasbro has tried to cater to younger, cash-strapped fans with its basic retro figures, running about $12-15 each. The more detailed $25 Black Series is aimed at collectors and Richie Rich kids [that was me back in the day - Ed]. If parents really want to splurge, they can buy Fives from Clone Wars (a Walmart exclusive), the half-a-Han bust from Gentle Giant or a sweet-smelling Ewok from Scentsy.

What will they think of next? Expect Ahsoka tie-ins like an animatronic ‘chatter back’ Chopper, highlighted at this year’s Star Wars Celebration Europe, and a Black Series Cad Bane.

Since demand for toys seems to be increasing with every new streaming show on Disney+ the possibilities, as White Darth Vader would say, are infinite.

Return of the Jedi at Star Wars Celebration

Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023 is only a few months away.

This year is the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and the final chapter in the original Star Wars trilogy will be celebrated at the 4-day event in London. A cast of actors from the movie will join a guest list spanning the entire saga from the original trilogy to the spin-off series on Disney+.

Star Wars merchandise reached its zenith with Return of the Jedi (until Star Wars: The Phantom Menace). I vividly remember a sales assistant at Exeter's Pram & Toy Shop showing me a retail brochure featuring all the upcoming action figures and accessories. My first toys were Kenner's Biker Scout and Speeder Bike, which weaved through the legs of our kitchen table and chairs.
