Captain America: Civil War's trailer shakes the MCU

Viewers of Jimmy Kimmel Live were treated to the world premiere of Captain America: Civil War's first trailer!

The next installment in the blockbusting Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) combines the tone of The Winter Soldier, my favourite Marvel movie, and the sweeping scale of the Avengers. Age of Ultron is a snooze fest compared to this.

Captain America: Civil War premieres April 2016 in the UK.

Black Widow returns for Captain America: Civil War

Directing siblings Anthony and Joe Russo, who helmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, have confirmed Scarlett Johansson will be reprising her role as Black Widow in Captain America: Civil War.

Civil War follows events in this year's Avengers: Age of Ultron directed by Joss Whedon.

“We’ve been preparing for the movie since the last one debuted last year,” said Anthony. “So, we’ve been working on it for a long time now. We’re very happy how it’s coming along. Captain America 3 is gonna be called Captain America: Civil War and it’s going to star Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson will be back, Winter Soldier [Sebastian Stan] will be back, and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man will also be joining us in the next film.”

Expect sparks to fly.

“The new element in this film is that Captain America and Iron Man get into a fight with each other.”

Yes, that could be considered an epic spoiler, but it's direct from the source.

Given the size of the announced cast, Civil War may be on a scale to rival an Avengers movie. What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.

The movie opens in the UK in April 2016.

Marvel's Agent Carter gets first TV Spot

Following the Marvel Event, which heralded the announcement of 8 movies spanning the next five years, the first TV Spot for Agent Carter has been revealed. Can Peggy Carter hold her own in a television schedule boasting Arrow, Constantine, Gotham and The Flash?

ABC presents its second action packed series from the creative minds at Marvel in “Marvel’s Agent Carter,” inspired by the feature films Marvel’s "Captain America: The First Avenger" and Marvel’s "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," along with the short "Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter."

Years before Agent Coulson and his S.H.I.E.L.D. team swore to protect those who cannot protect themselves from threats they cannot conceive, there was Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell, Marvel's "Captain America: The First Avenger," Marvel's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier"), who pledged the same oath but lived in a different time when women weren’t recognized as being as smart or as tough as their male counterparts.

But no one should ever underestimate Peggy.

It's 1946 and peace has dealt Peggy a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy finds herself stuck doing administrative work when she would rather be back out in the field; putting her vast skills into play and taking down the bad guys. But she is also trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life, Steve Rogers – aka Captain America.

When old acquaintance Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper, Marvel's "Captain America: The First Avenger”) finds himself being framed for unleashing his deadliest weapons to anyone willing to pony up the cash, he contacts Peggy - the only person he can trust - to track down those responsible, dispose of the weapons and clear his name. He empowers his butler, Edwin Jarvis (James D'Arcy, “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World”), to be at her beck and call when needed to help assist her as she investigates and tracks down those responsible for releasing these weapons of mass destruction. But Jarvis, who is a creature of habit and sticks to a rigid daily routine, is going to have to make some major life changes if he’s going to be able to keep up with Peggy.

If caught going on these secret missions for Stark, Peggy could be targeted as a traitor and spend the rest of her days in prison – or worse. And as she delves deeper into her investigation, she may find that those she works for are not who they seem, and she might even begin to question whether Stark is as innocent as he claims.

Agent Carter's eight-episode mini-series begins this January on ABC. No news regarding UK transmission dates.

Marvel's Agent Carter

It's fair to say Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. got interesting and then some in the wake of The Winter Soldier. The series is to be renewed for a second season and Captain America's Agent Carter (Hayley Atwell) gets her own spin-off.

Official description of the new series from ABC:

“Marvel’s Agent Carter,” starring “Captain America’s” Hayley Atwell follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” along with the short “Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.” “Marvel’s Agent Carter” stars Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter. Executive producers are Michele Fazekas & Tara Butters, Steve McFeely & Christopher Marcus, and Jeph Loeb.

ABC isn't pulling any punches and Marvel fans have much look forward to including a new Netflix series too.

The Winter Soldier to tie into Age of Ultron

Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Captain America: The Winter Soldier will tie into both Avengers: Age of Ultron and the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series.

“I’ve really been impressed with the early buzz that we’re seeing for the Marvel films,” said Iger. “Captain America is just huge. Now, we’re already in the marketplace with some marketing, but it’s been relatively limited. We had a pre-game for instance in the Super Bowl. And yet the interest in the Captain America film, which comes out April 4 here in the states, seems much louder than it would be for what I would call a non-branded film.”

Stopped watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. after episode 2! Perhaps it's time to revisit?
