Obi-Wan Kenobi series begins filming April

The main cast for the latest Disney+ live-action Star Wars spin-off is announced as production ramps up in Los Angeles with director Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian) at the helm.

Obi-Wan Kenobi sees Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Hayden Christensen (Darth Vader) reprise their roles from George Lucas' prequel trilogy and utilises the Volume, an LED-based virtual set technology developed (by former Lucasfilm staffers) for The Mandalorian.

The official synopsis for the special event series:

“The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.”

Joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie.

Edgerton and Piesse played the ill-fated Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru respectively in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. So, we may see Kenobi keeping a watchful eye over a young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine before facing Darth Vader, again, in the hopes of turning his friend and former apprentice back to the light side of the Force.

Obi-Wan Kenobi begins filming in April and is expected to stream exclusively on Disney+ sometime in 2022 along with the third season of The Mandalorian. The Book of Boba Fett debuts this December on Disney+.
