Black Widow in cinemas and on Disney+

Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) would have begun last May with Black Widow, which was delayed multiple times over the past year due to the global pandemic.

So, WandaVision began Phase 4, followed by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki on Disney+.

Disney couldn't delay the Marvel Studios' movie indefinitely due to the interconnected storylines and merchandise in stores.

Many fans (myself included) argued Black Widow could be simultaneously released in cinemas (when it's safe to reopen) and on Disney+ with Premier Access. This was successfully trialled with the live-action adaptation of Mulan last September.

Following the recent release of Raya and the Last Dragon, The Walt Disney Company has confirmed Black Widow, starring Scarlett Johansson as the titular character, will premiere day and date in cinemas and on Disney+ with Premier Access.

“By leveraging a flexible distribution strategy in a dynamic marketplace that is beginning to recover from the global pandemic, we will continue to employ the best options to deliver The Walt Disney Company’s unparalleled storytelling to fans and families around the world,” said Kareem Daniel, the chairman of Disney Media and Entertainment distribution.

In related news. Today is the first anniversary of Disney+ launching in the UK. I've renewed an annual subscription for another year.

Black Widow will be in cinemas and available exclusively on Disney+ with Premier Access on 9th July.
