Kylo Ren in the final season of Star Wars Resistance

Star Wars Resistance returns for its second and final season in the fall. Lucasfilm has released a trailer for the upcoming season set between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

Nick Smith reviewed season one and will be back for the epic finale, assuming he doesn't get into any First Order entanglements at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, Walt Disney World.

Are you surprised Star Wars Resistance is ending after only two seasons? Let me know in the comments below.

Star Wars Resistance flying high on Disney Channel

Lucasfilm has released the first trailer for its upcoming animated series Star Wars Resistance.

The anime-inspired series, set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, follows new characters with appearances from Poe Dameron, BB-8, Captain Phasma and General Leia.

Star Wars Resistance premieres 10th October on the Disney Channel.

Dave Filoni follows Rebels with Star Wars Resistance

Fresh from finishing Star Wars Rebels, Lucasfilm veteran Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) has announced an all-new animated series set in the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars Resistance is set prior to The Force Awakens and features appearances from beloved characters including Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma. Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie will reprise their iconic roles in the anime-inspired series.

“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots,” said Filoni. “My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”

Marc Buhaj, senior vice president for programming and general manager of Disney XD, added: “Our colleagues at Lucasfilm have created a compelling narrative for an untold moment in the Star Wars galaxy, and we are excited to partner with them again on this new original series. ‘Star Wars Resistance’ will bring viewers across generations an engaging story with heart, humor and both new and familiar characters.”

Star Wars Resistance will premiere on Disney XD in the Fall.

DisneyLife streams Star Wars Rebels on Star Wars Day

Star Wars fans can watch all four seasons of Star Wars Rebels when it streams on DisneyLife, in the UK and Ireland, from May the 4th.

It's a fitting way to celebrate Star Wars Day and for fans (myself included) to see the series finale for the first time as we look ahead to Solo: A Star Wars Story in cinemas from 25th May.

I've championed Dave Filoni's follow-up to The Clone Wars since the series premiere on Disney XD in 2014 and will miss the crew of the Ghost.

DisneyLife is available on various devices including Apple TV and Samsung Smart TVs for £4.99 per month with no contract. The upcoming Star Wars live-action series will be exclusive to the streaming service.

How will you celebrate Star Wars Day? Let me know in the comments below.

Star Wars Rebels 90-minute series finale this March

The series finale of Star Wars Rebels is 5th March on Disney XD. After 4 thrilling critically-acclaimed seasons, the crew of the Ghost face their final challenge in an epic 90-minute special.

In A Fool's Hope - Ezra calls in every favour he can to rally together a ragtag group for a seemingly impossible fight against Governor Pryce and her Imperial forces.

In Family Reunion – and Farewell – Ezra and team take drastic action to free Lothal.

Star Wars Rebels quickly stepped out of the shadow of Cartoon Network's The Clone Wars and became a fan favourite filled with guest stars from the franchise's storied history. From James Earl Jones reprising the role of Darth Vader to Frank Oz as Yoda. Bringing back Grand Admiral Thrawn (Heir to the Empire) was an inspired move, and the Ghost can be seen in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

What will you miss about Star Wars Rebels? Let me know in the comments below.

Star Wars Rebels ends with the return of the Emperor

Star Wars Rebels season four continues on Disney XD from 19th February culminating in a 90-minute series finale with the Emperor this March.

Ian McDiarmid is reprising his iconic role as the Emperor, which he started in Return of the Jedi and continued in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

Showrunner Dave Filoni is pulling out all the stops and the fate of the Ghost's crew is seemingly bleak.

DisneyLife, the company's excellent streaming service currently only available in the UK and Ireland, was launched on selected Samsung televisions before Christmas. This gave me an opportunity to catch up with exclusive Star War and Marvel content on the Disney Channel. Alas, Star Wars Rebels season four has yet to be made available.

The returning voice cast includes Freddie Prinze Jr. as Kanan, Vanessa Marshall as Hera, Steve Blum as Zeb, Tiya Sircar as Sabine, Taylor Gray as Ezra, Dee Bradley Baker as Captain Rex, David Oyelowo as Kallus, Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera and Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn. Warwick Davis joins the cast this season as Rukh, Admiral Thrawn’s deadly assassin.

Yoda to return in The Last Jedi?

During a panel at SXSW Frank Oz was asked whether or not Yoda would return in Star Wars: The Last Jedi?

"I feel like I’m a prisoner at war here, and I can only give you my name, rank and serial number," Oz said. "To be true to the people who asked me, and they are kind of my family, I have to say I’ve been asked not to talk about it. I love Yoda. I would be happy to talk to you about it at the time they let me."

A cryptic answer and one that suggests the beloved Jedi Master maybe seen on the big screen this December in director Rian Johnson's Star Wars sequel. Observant fans would have heard Yoda's voice during Rey's vision in The Force Awakens.

This feeds into an Episode VIII theory, I postulated during Star Wars Celebration Europe, that we'll see Ewan McGregor reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi on screen. His voice, blended with Sir Alec Guinness, can also be heard in The Force Awakens. It makes narrative sense, especially if The Last Jedi is centred around Luke training Rey a la Yoda training Luke in The Empire Strikes Back.

Frank Oz has previously reprised the role of Yoda in Star Wars Rebels on Disney XD.

Darth Maul seeks revenge in Star Wars Rebels

Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul duel in next Saturday's episode of Star Wars Rebels on Disney XD.

These guys have a history that stretches back to The Phantom Menace and their feud comes to an epic conclusion in Twin Suns. Maul has tracked Kenobi to Tatooine and is seemingly hellbent on revenge...

Star Wars Rebels renewed for fourth season

Star Wars Rebels will return to Disney XD later this year.

Marc Buhaj, senior vice president, programming and general manager, Disney XD said, “The team behind Star Wars Rebels delivers epic storytelling that has captivated fans of all ages across the globe. We’re excited to continue sharing the journey of these fan-favorite rebels with our audience in the fall.”

Set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Star Wars Rebels has continued to build on its Cartoon Network predecessor The Clone Wars: forming the connective tissue between the prequel and original trilogies. Last December I got goosebumps seeing the Ghost in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

The crew of the Ghost have eluded the Grand Inquisitor, Darth Vader, Grand Moff Tarkin and Grand Admiral Thrawn. But for how much longer?

Looking forward to Star Wars Rebels season four? Let me know in the comments below.

Rogue One's Saw Gerrera returns in Star Wars Rebels

Star Wars Rebels returns 7th January on Disney XD and this mid-season trailer features Forest Whitaker reprising his role as Saw Gerrera from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Saw Gerrera first appeared in The Clone Wars alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. Gerrera is a militant representing a more extreme side of the rising Rebellion.

Star Wars Rebels gets ever closer to A New Hope and Obi-Wan Kenobi returns to the fray.

Star Wars Rebels Season 3 is Thrawnalicious!

Star Wars Rebels season 3 begins 24th September on Disney XD and here's the latest trailer featuring Grand Admiral Thrawn, plotting the downfall of the Rebellion and the motley crew of the Ghost, to whet your appetite.

Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) was the scourge of the victorious Rebellion in author Timothy Zahn's sequel to Return of the Jedi, Heir to the Empire, published in 1991.

The Thrawn trilogy was well received by fans (including myself) and, arguably, kickstarted a mainstream renaissance in the Star Wars franchise that included Dark Horse Comics' Dark Empire trilogy and seminal first-person shooter Dark Forces, which inspired Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Looking forward to seeing fan favourite Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels? Let me know in the comments below.

Doctor Who's Tom Baker joins Star Wars Rebels

Amid the excitement of Star Wars Celebration Europe, a former Doctor Who joined the cast of a galaxy far, far away... Tom Baker. My Doctor.

Baker plays the mysterious Bendu, neither Sith nor Jedi, in Star Wars Rebels S3 and you can see his new character in this trailer, which premiered during Star Wars Celebration Europe.

Fans may recall the term 'Jedi Bendu' appeared in early drafts of Star Wars.

Series showrunner Dave Filoni told a packed audience, at the ExCeL, that when he wrote this character, he ‘knew’ it had to be Tom Baker to voice it! As a child Filoni was a fan of The Fourth Doctor, describing Tom as "bigger than life."

"He’s so unique in everything he does," Filoni told host Warwick Davis, adding that Bendu is "a different kind of Force character/creature than we’ve had before," and will make a "big difference" to the hit Disney XD series.

This isn't the first time a Doctor Who actor has appeared in George Lucas' space opera. David Tennant won an Emmy for his role in Filoni's earlier spin-off The Clone Wars.

Star Wars Rebels' darkly emotional season finale

Star Wars Rebels takes a darker, more mature, turn in the breathtaking 1-hour season finale on Disney XD.

Longtime fans finally get to see Darth Vader and Ahsoka Tano clash. It's a dazzling encounter between former master and apprentice that evokes all the feels. James Earl Jones reprises voiceover duties for Darth Vader and nothing more needs to be said.

Series showrunner Dave Filoni and his creative cohorts aim high and deliver a dark denouement that will haunt many children's dreams much like the original trilogy did for the first generation of Star Wars fans (including myself). Whilst the season finale maybe unsuitable for younger children, the tone is in keeping with the darkness of The Empire Strikes Back and The Force Awakens.

Clearly, Star Wars Rebels is being framed to tie-in very closely with Rogue One and A New Hope. Kanan and the crew of the Ghost may shape upcoming events in the original and sequel trilogies more profoundly than originally thought.

If you're not watching Star Wars Rebels, may I suggest you do so post haste as the Disney XD series is finite and deeply enriches the canvas of a galaxy far, far away...

LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures TV series

Star Wars Rebels will be joined by LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures this summer on Disney XD. Unlike Star Wars Rebels. The new animated series is set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

"Told in the whimsically-charged style that audiences have come to expect from LEGO Star Wars entertainment, the series stars the Freemakers, a family of scavengers who build and sell starships from the scoured debris of space battles strewn throughout the galaxy."

“We are very excited to launch for the first time a TV series with Disney XD,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president, licensing & entertainment at the LEGO Group. “The creative team behind The Freemaker Adventures is extremely talented, and the series is a great testament to our longstanding and successful partnership with Lucasfilm and Disney. The show masterfully combines the rich heritage of storytelling, great characters, action, and adventure in a galaxy far, far away with the creativity, imagination, and humor that only LEGO Star Wars can deliver. We are sure fans young and old are going to love the show.”

“With The Freemaker Adventures we are thrilled to bring all-new stories to life that could only be realized in the LEGO Star Wars universe,” said Carrie Beck, vice president, animation development at Lucasfilm. “We are embarking on an unprecedented collaboration that will allow us to extend the narrative experience of the Star Wars saga with the same playful spirit that’s always made LEGO Star Wars so much fun to watch. We are so thankful to have such great partners in the LEGO Group, Disney XD, and series developers Bill Motz and Bob Roth.”

Whilst another animated series is a fun addition, I'd like to see a live-action spin-off too. Perhaps in the vein of Marvel's Daredevil and Jessica Jones on Netflix.

Aside from The Freemaker Adventures announcement. Filming of Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is all but complete according to Disney CEO Bob Iger and Star Wars: Episode VIII began principal photography in London this week. Rian Johnson's sequel to The Force Awakens will be released in December 2017.

Princess Leia to appear on Star Wars Rebels

Princess Leia makes her debut in Star Wars Rebels this January on Disney XD. The episode "A Princess on Lothal" is set three years before A New Hope.

“One of the complex challenges of depicting Leia in 'Star Wars Rebels' is that we have to remind the audience that she is part of the Empire at this point,” says Executive Producer / Supervising Director Dave Filoni. “She doesn’t believe in the Empire, but she is acting the part, almost as a double agent. The Empire sees her as a privileged princess who runs mercy missions to wayward worlds, but in truth she is much stronger and more dangerous than they imagine.”

The young Princess Leia is voiced by actress Julie Dolan and harkens back to a time before audiences saw her blossom into a general with Carrie Fisher reprising her iconic role in The Force Awakens.

“There really is no other character quite like her,” says Filoni. “And to quote The Force Awakens’ Lor San Tekka, ‘She’ll always be royalty to me.’”

Princess Leia is the latest original trilogy character to appear in Star Wars Rebels.

Star Wars Rebels renewed for third season

Ahead of the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in cinemas this month, Disney's announced news that will delight fans of Star Wars Rebels on Disney XD.

A third season is already in production for broadcast in 2016. Marc Buhaj, Disney XD's senior vice president programming and general manager, made the announcement, "We are proud to bring our audience a third season of 'Star Wars Rebels,' a series that has resonated across generations." Buhaj added, "The creative team behind the series continues to do a brilliant job in delivering on the key tenets that fans have come to expect from a Star Wars property, including adventure, hope and the battle between good vs. evil."

"We're very proud of our incredibly creative Rebels team," says Lucasfilm's senior vice president of development, Kiri Hart. "The show continues to tell fun, heartfelt, exciting new Star Wars stories week after week, and it's beloved by fans of all ages. Season three will see our Rebel heroes face new obstacles and find new allies in their fight against the Empire."

Following a series of critical events, the lives of our heroes will be changed forever as season three begins.

Star Wars Rebels Season 2 premieres this Saturday

This Saturday sees the return of Star Wars Rebels in a one-hour special event on Disney XD.

Darth Vader continues his pursuit of the surviving Jedi and our intrepid band of rebels are no match for the Lord of the Sith in The Siege of Lothal.

Anakin Skywalker's apprentice Ahsoka Tano is back in the fray following her shock return during the season one finale. Will the former master and apprentice clash?

The new season of Star Wars Rebels continues in the Fall. Excited? Let me know in the comments below.

Star Wars Rebels Season 2 premieres this June

Star Wars Rebels returns to US television screens, in a one-hour movie event, June 20th on Disney XD.

Star Wars Rebels: The Siege of Lothal sees the return of Darth Vader, voiced by James Earl Jones, as the Dark Lord of the Sith continues to hunt down the Jedi and pursue the rebellion against the Galactic Empire.

New episodes will continue to rollout in the Fall.

Here's the tantalising season two trailer in all its glory.

No news regarding an international premiere for the one-hour movie. However, given the anticipation surrounding The Force Awakens, it would be surprising if it wasn't sooner rather than later.

Monday is Star Wars Day. How are you celebrating? Let me know in the comments below.

Felicity Jones cast in standalone Star Wars: Rogue One

Disney CEO Bob Iger announced, during an investors meeting, the title of the first Star Wars standalone movie. Star Wars: Rogue One directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla).

Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) has a leading role. Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) and siblings Kate and Rooney Mara were previously linked to the first Star Wars spin-off movie.

Iger also revealed Star Wars: Episode VIII, written and directed by Rian Johnson (Looper), opens May 2017! This coincides with the 40th anniversary of Star Wars' premiere in the US.

Evidently Disney is reprising its Marvel Cinematic Universe transmedia tale with spin-off movies and a new trilogy, which begins with JJ Abrams' The Force Awakens. This strategy began with Star Wars Rebels on Disney XD and continues in Marvel comics.

Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, an all-new Marvel comics event series, begins this September.

Star Wars: Rogue One starts shooting this summer in London and is due for release on December 16th, 2016.

What does the title mean? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Sarah Michelle Gellar joins cast of Star Wars Rebels

Disney has announced Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will be joining her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., in the second season of Star Wars Rebels on Disney XD. There's no news on her character, but it will be a recurring role.

Dave Filoni said, “We’re thrilled to have Sarah Michelle Gellar on board for season two. She is a true ‘Star Wars Rebels’ fan and her passion undoubtedly comes through in the voice recording sessions.”

The second season sees recurring appearances of franchise favourites including Darth Vader and Ahsoka Tano (The Clone Wars) who appeared in the season one finale.

Which role do you think Ms Gellar will play? Let me know in the comments below.
