Hasbro’s Women Innovators of Play Challenge

Our friends at Hasbro have sent over exciting details of their second annual Hasbro Women Innovators of Play Challenge.

Hasbro is inviting women innovators to submit their own ideas for toys or games to Hasbro, where a panel of judges will select winners based on various factors such as innovation, mass marketability, fun factor, and more.

Selected winners will win a $10,000 cash prize, mentorship and trip to Hasbro World Headquarters in Pawtucket, Rhode Island for a “Day at Hasbro.”

The second annual Challenge is part of Hasbro’s larger Women Innovators of Play initiative. In fact, women account for 70% of toy purchases but only represent 29% of C-Suite roles in the industry.

It is Hasbro’s commitment to inspire and elevate more women’s involvement in the toy and game industry.

This year also saw the return of Hasbro’s Women Innovators of Play virtual event, which took place in October with a full lineup of speakers from Hasbro and other industry leaders and influencers.

It would be inspiring to see a female Star Wars fan win! Follow the link here for further details and to submit your idea.

Submissions close on 12th November. May the Force be with you.

Will you be submitting an idea to the Hasbro Women Innovators of Play Challenge? Let me know in the comments below.

NEW PARTWORK SERIES OFFERS STAR WARS FANS AND MODEL MAKERS THE CHANCE TO BUILD THE COOLEST SHIP IN THE GALAXY

‘BUILD THE MILLENNIUM FALCON’ REPLICA MODEL BASED ON THE ACTUAL MOVIE PROP

London, UK - January 6th, 2015: De Agostini Publishing today announced the release of a brand new weekly magazine series offering Star Wars fans and model makers the opportunity to build a detailed replica of the Millennium Falcon.

Featured in the recently released teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the appearance of Han Solo’s iconic starship caused excitement around the world, demonstrating that The Millennium Falcon has still “got it where it counts”.

Officially licensed by Lucasfilm, this is the most detailed model of the Millennium Falcon ever produced, based on designs used in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.

A 1:1 scale model of the original Empire Strikes Back movie prop, the Build the Millennium Falcon model includes pre-painted hull parts, removable panels, working electronics for the moving ramp, LED lighting, and many internal details including the famous dejarik hologame table. With a die cast metal and highly detailed resin construction, the completed model will measure 808mm long, 596mm wide and 192mm high.

As a result of advanced manufacturing techniques, De Agostini is now able to bring this unique model to the market in 100 issues, making it accessible for Star Wars fans and model makers. The only other comparable model previously available was from Master Replicas Inc. as a pre-assembled model at a significantly higher price. The De Agostini model will have internal features which the Master Replicas model did not have and therefore has added value.

In addition to the components for the model and assembly instructions, each issue of Build the Millennium Falcon comes with a comprehensive 16-page magazine that explores the starships, planets and conflicts from the Star Wars movies.

Issue No. 1 is currently on sale at the introductory price of £2.99 and contains components for the cockpit, some hull plating and laser parts, and the full-size blueprint for the model. Issue No. 2 is in stores from 14th January 2015 at the regular price of £8.99, and will contain the dejarik hologame table amongst other parts, along with a free screwdriver.

Subscribers to the magazine series will receive special free gifts, including a limited edition T-shirt, a Han Solo figurine, an exclusive binder for keeping the magazine safe and a display stand to show the model off to best effect.

More information and details on how to subscribe can be found on the official website http://www.buildmillenniumfalcon.com/, and the official Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/BuildMillenniumFalcon

The series is available throughout its publication via either newsagents or via subscription, which can be cancelled at any time.

This is a unique build up product for the model collector and is not designed as a toy. As such it is not suitable for children under the age of 14.

Are You #TeamStarWars or #TeamStarTrek?

Obsessed with the intergalactic worlds of Star Wars and/or Star Trek? Only a true fan can fully appreciate a quiz that separates the Star Wars fans from the Trekkies, straight from Matt Forbeck’s Star Wars Vs. Star Trek; Could the Empire kick the Federation’s ass? and other galaxy-shaking enigmas.

Filled with details about aliens, technology, story points, weaponry, and heroes from the two great science fiction/fantasy stories of our age, Star Wars Vs. Star Trek serves as an encyclopaedia for trusty fans.

Here, the ultimate quiz from the author, Matt Forbeck!

12 Ways To Tell If You’re A Star Wars Or A Star Trek Fan:

1. When you see a puffle, you wonder if Club Penguin is a kids’ version of Star Trek Online, and you marvel at this strange new world in which tribbles come in so many bright colors.

2. You regularly tell your kids, “Don’t make me destroy you.”

3. Every time start your car, you say, “Engage!”

4. When landscaping your yard, you think about how much easier it would be with a lightsaber.

5. When someone starts debating logically with you, you shout, “Are you out of your Vulcan mind?”

6. You know if a parsec is a unit of distance or time—but you don’t really care.

7. When you hear “O Captain! My Captain!” you think “Kirk or Picard?”

8. You wonder if C4 is an (explosive) kind of droid.

9. Impulse control seems like something Mr. Sulu or Wesley Crusher should be good at—even if you’re not.

10. Hyperspace is where you send your kids rather than Timeout.

11. Mr. Spock is a science officer, not a pediatrician, dammit.

12. May the Fourth (“be with you”) isn’t just a day to prepare for Cinco de Mayo.

So are you TEAM STAR WARS or TEAM STAR TREK? Follow @adamsmedia on Twitter, then Tweet your team + WHY with one of these hashtags: #teamstarwars OR #teamstartrek. You’ll have the chance to win a copy of the book – on June 23, we’ll pick 6 random Tweeters, 3 from each team!

Thanks to Adri Cowan for bringing this to my attention. Follow @adrileya.

Create your own LittleBigPlanet avatar on Facebook

I'm going to say it! LittleBigPlanet 2, narrated by everyone's favourite polymath, Stephen Fry, is the most charming and creative of adventures for the PS3, or any video games console for that matter, from Sony! And embodies the company's philosophy of make.believe.

LittleBigPlanet's genesis lies in a conversation between Media Molecule co-founders Mark Healey and Dave Smith following a cinema visit to see Howl's Moving Castle by Studio Ghibli. They created a prototype of their idea, a game called Craftworld, a physics-based, 2D side-scrolling game, with a place holder character called Mr. Yellowhead and successfully pitched the idea to Sony. LittleBigPlanet was released in 2008 to critical acclaim.

Play. Create. Share. Who wouldn't be enthralled by LittleBigPlanet 2's infinite world of possibilities? A puzzle platform video game based on user-generated content - its scope only limited by your imagination. A community-made and semi-official level pack named Hansel and Gretelbot was released in February. The series of levels, based loosely on the fairytale of Hansel & Gretel, was created by a team of community members who were approached by Media Molecule and asked to collaborate and attempt to make a set of levels that could match the quality of the game's story levels. The series, created using only in-game tools, features original music, voice acting and prizes.

Now you can create, customise and share the star of LittleBigPlanet 2 with your family and friends on Facebook. To quote Blue Peter, the world's longest-running children's television show, here's one I made earlier: Good times!

Why not create a Sackboy or Sackgirl, yourself, and just by using the Facebook application you can enter a competition to win a Sony experience pack, which includes a Sony BRAVIA TV, a PlayStation 3 and a Sackboy plush toy!
